May 25 GAHE Webinar — 988: What Is the National Suicide Prevention Hotline?

May 25, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

9-8-8: What Is the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and Why Should You Be Preparing Right Now?

This Program Qualifies for 1 Hour of ACHE Qualified Credit

If you haven’t heard about 988 yet…you are about to keep hearing about it! Federal law requires all states to implement 9-8-8 capacity (mirroring 911) to address individuals in a behavioral health crisis in Georgia. Learn about preparations underway, and what the impact might be for you and your organization when 988 begins initial implementation in July 2022.

This webinar provides an opportunity for participants to learn about the 988 law and requirements and receive an update on planning underway in Georgia and consider preparations that healthcare agencies and others need to undertake for successful implementation in July 2022.

Join us on May 25 for a look at the National Suicide Prevention Hotline. And earn 1 hour of ACHE Qualified Education credit.

Information about the implementation of “988” has been widely shared among governmental agencies, but the public is generally less aware. When implemented in July 2022, dialing this 3-digit code will be akin to 911 but for behavioral health crises. Instead of going to a National Suicide Prevention call center, calls from Georgia stay in Georgia. The state is seeing a continued increase in these calls in the current environment, and we believe 988 will activate awareness of increased demand and put significant pressure on a strained system. The time to prepare is now!

Learning Objectives:

  1. Make participants aware of federal law and state requirements.
  2. Let participants know about current resources in the state to address Crisis response needs.
  3. Inform participants of initial projections regarding call volume, costs, and healthcare impacts.
  4. Equip participants with information to prepare their agencies and organizations for the beginning of the rollout in July 2022.
