On December 2, GAHE and the Georgia Chapter of HIMSS present a special virtual community education opportunity. Our guest speaker, Sarah West, Investigator with the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services/Office for Civil Rights (OCR) Southeast Region, will help you understand recent enforcement discretions and guidance OCR has issued in response to COVID-19.
Join us for our virtual education event on December 2 as Sarah West looks at recent HIPAA policy and enforcment issues. And earn 1 hour of ACHE Qualified Education Credit.
Key Learning Objectives for this Session Include:
- Understanding the Enforcement Discretions and guidance OCR issued in response to Covid 19.
- Understanding the trends in breaches reported to OCR and recent enforcement actions.
- Identifying HIPAA best practices and most common compliance challenges.
- Identifying the resources OCR has to assist providers with HIPAA compliance.
About Our Speaker
Sarah West is an investigator with US Department of Health and Human Services in the Office for Civil Rights in the Southeast Region. She responds to HIPAA complainants and conducts HIPAA breach investigations and compliance reviews. She is also responsible for responding to complaints submitted by individuals who feel they have been discriminated against by an individual or entity that receives federal financial assistance from HHS on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex and in limited circumstances religion.
She attended law school at Georgia State University’s College of Law, obtained a masters of arts in bioethics from Case Western Reserve University, and completed a bachelor’s in arts at Furman University, in Greenville, South Carolina.
